8th Pay Commission: New update on fitment factor, DA and gratuity

8th Pay Commission latest news: The two biggest topics are currently the center of discussion in the country—the general budget and the 8th Pay Commission. Recently, Shiv Gopal Mishra, Secretary, National Council of Joint Consultative Machinery (NC-JCM), shared many important information related to the 8th Pay Commission in a special interview. In this interview, Mishra spoke important things on fitment factor, commission’s timeline, DA and gratuity.

8th Pay Commission Fitment factor: What will be new?

Shiv Gopal Mishra, while giving his opinion on the fitment factor, said that the demand for the fitment factor of the employees under the 7th Pay Commission was 3.26, but they got a fitment of only 2.57. He also said that the fitment factor is determined not only on the salary, but also keeping in mind the lifestyle of the employees. This time he believes that the fitment factor under the 8th Pay Commission should be at least 2.86. However, Mishra also said that it is not yet finalized, but the fitment factor of 2.08 will be very less for the employees.

When will the 8th Pay Commission be formed?

On this, Mishra said that the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has started discussions on this subject and action will start on it very soon. He hopes that the 8th Pay Commission can be constituted by February 2025. According to Mishra, by November 30, 2025, the commission will prepare its report, which the government will see for review in December. This means that the new pay commission can be implemented from January 2026.

Will DA be made zero?

Shiv Gopal Mishra, while answering this question, said that when the new pay commission comes into force, DA (dearness allowance) will be made zero and the existing DA will be included in the fitment. This means that employees will get the adjusted amount under the new pay structure instead of dearness allowance.

Will there be a change in gratuity?

Mishra also said that gratuity can also be increased under the 8th Pay Commission. He said that employees should get more benefits based on their tenure, so that they can get more money than the government’s limit. However, the final decision on this will be taken by the commission.
