CMS College (Education). The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has decided to make M.Ed (Master of Education) one year from 2026-27. This change has been made under the National Education Policy 2020.
Changes in B.Ed course too
Earlier, NCTE had also announced to make the B.Ed course one year again. Till 2014, B.Ed used to be of one year, which will now be re-implemented.
Who will be able to take admission?
According to NCTE Chairman Pankaj Arora, candidates doing one-year B.Ed, completing two-year teacher education course and four-year integrated course will get admission in M.Ed.
New syllabus and admission process
NCTE is preparing the syllabus for this new course and suggestions have been sought from the institutes. However, the admission process has not been decided yet. Currently, admission to the four-year integrated teacher education course is done through an entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
The syllabus will be prepared in accordance with the new education policy
The curriculum of this course to be prepared under the new education policy will be decided by a committee constituted by NCTE. This is expected to bring qualitative improvement in teacher education.
