Damascus. The US military on Thursday killed Mohammed Salah al-Jabir, a top terrorist of the al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group Hurr al-Din, in an massive airstrike in northwestern Syria. According to the US Central Command, the attack was part of a strategy to prevent and weaken terrorist activities in the region.
US increased attacks as soon as the Assad government fell
After the fall of the Bashar al-Assad government, the US has intensified attacks on the bases of Islamic State (ISIS) and al-Qaeda-linked organizations. In December 2024, the US Central Command carried out air strikes on more than 75 ISIS bases. These included ISIS leaders, fighters and training camps. B-52 bombers and F-15 fighter jets were used at that time, although information about the aircraft used in the latest attack has not been shared.
Death of Hamas commander Mohammed Deif confirmed
Amid massive airstrikes in Syria, Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas has confirmed the death of its military commander Mohammed Deif. According to the Times of Israel report, Hamas spokesman Abu Obeida issued a video statement saying that apart from Deif, Hamas’ military wing’s Chief of Staff Rad Thabet, Khan Younis Brigade’s commander Rafa Salameh, Central Gaza Brigade’s commander Ayman Nofal and Northern Gaza Brigade’s commander Ahmed Ghandour have also been killed. Israel had claimed to have killed Deif six months ago, which has now been confirmed by Hamas.
