In Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district, the officials have started a campaign against those who have electricity bills pending and have started taking action against the consumers.
First, the red letterhead of North Bihar Power Distribution is being pasted on the houses of the defaulters. The next action is being taken as a legal notice.
If the due amount is not paid by them also, then a certificate case i.e. auction action is being taken against them. In that, along with cutting the line, the meter is also being uprooted.
So far, five thousand smart meters have been uprooted in the Eastern Division and deposited in the department. 30 thousand consumers have been identified in the said division.
Awareness is being spread
These are the people who have not recharged their smart meter for three months. So far, five thousand smart meters have been uprooted and a certificate case has been filed.
Awareness is being spread among the people in various areas through auto rickshaws and bikes. People are being given the message of paying electricity bills by going door to door.
Electrical Superintendent Engineer Pankaj Rajesh said that action has been ordered against more than one thousand electricity bill defaulters. All Assistant Electrical Engineers have been given the data of consumers.
Electricity connection of 312 consumers who did not pay was cut
On the other hand, the department has taken strict action against 312 defaulters who had not paid electricity bills for a long time in Laukahi block and has cut their electricity connections.
A special campaign is being run by the top management of North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited where the electricity connection of consumers of 18 panchayats of Laukahi block who have not deposited their bills for a long time has been disconnected.
Sub-Divisional Executive Engineer Khutauna Shivam Kumar while giving information said that as per the instructions of Electrical Executive Engineer Ramesh Kumar, a team has been formed and their connection has been disconnected in view of the long pending dues.
Action is being taken against more than 5 thousand defaulters and notices are being pasted in their houses, in which they have been declared defaulters by taking concrete steps to keep the department’s revenue for a long time and to compensate for the loss in revenue.

Shri Kumar further informed that the number of such consumers in the block is 8 thousand. The process of legal action has been started against them.
