Delhi’s Warmest February Night in 74 Years

IMD stated, “The minimum temperature recorded at Safdarjung on February 27, 2025, was 19.5°C, making it the warmest February night in 74 years.” Data before 1951 is unavailable, making this the highest recorded nighttime temperature for February in Delhi’s history.

Previous Records of Warm February Nights

Before this, the highest minimum temperature in February was recorded on February 25, 2015, at 19°C, making it the second-highest on record. Other notable records include:

18.6°C in 1973
18.5°C on February 20, 2015
18.2°C in 1992
18.0°C in 1988

Why Was Thursday Night So Hot?

IMD attributes this temperature rise to cloud cover over the city. The maximum temperature on Thursday was 25°C, which was 1.1°C lower than the seasonal average. However, the previous day (Wednesday) saw Delhi’s highest daytime temperature of the season, reaching 32.4°C. The cloud cover prevented heat from escaping, leading to an unusually warm night.

What’s Next for Delhi Weather?

Mahesh Palawat, Vice President of Skymet Weather, predicts a drop in nighttime temperatures over the next few days due to light drizzles and persistent cloud cover. These conditions are expected to last until March 3-4.
