Punjab Tragedy 1 February: A tragic accident has come to light from Punjab, in which 12 members of a family returning from a wedding were swept away in the Bhakra Canal. Four people died in this accident, while 11 people are missing. This incident happened on Friday night, when due to dense fog, a cruiser car was going from Punjab to Haryana and fell into the Bhakra Canal near villages Khai and Sardorewala of the subdivision.
There were 14 people in the car, and all were members of the same family. They were returning to their village Mahmada after attending a wedding ceremony in Fazilka. As soon as the incident was reported, a rescue team led by Thana Sadar in-charge Rajveer Singh reached the spot.
The flow of water in the Bhakra Canal was fast, due to which 12 people were swept away. However, one person saved his life by jumping, and a 10-year-old child was also pulled out of the canal, who was sent to the government hospital in Ratia for treatment. Till around 11 pm, police and diving teams were trying to rescue people, but due to cold and dense fog, rescue work was facing difficulties.
