Mahakumbh Stampede Live Update: A tragic accident took place in Prayagraj on Tuesday night. A stampede broke out due to the increasing crowd at the Mahakumbh fair, in which 17 people have died so far, while the death toll is expected to increase further. More than 50 devotees have been injured. Relief and rescue operations are going on rapidly, there are queues of ambulances to take the injured to hospitals.

A flood of devotees thronged the Sangam coast before the Amrit Snan of Mauni Amavasya. Due to excessive crowd, a stampede broke out at around 2 am on Tuesday night, due to which many people are feared to be crushed. At present, the administration has not officially confirmed the number of dead and injured.

PM Modi contacted CM Yogi

Regarding this incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and took information about the accident and reviewed the relief work. He has given instructions to provide immediate help to the injured.

Royal bath cancelled, entry of general public banned

In view of the horrific situation of the stampede, all 13 akhadas have cancelled the royal bath of Mauni Amavasya. Entry of general devotees has been completely stopped. The administrative staff is engaged in relief work and is keeping a close watch on the situation.

Clarification of the administration

Special Executive Officer Akanksha Rana, while clarifying on the accident, said, “A stampede-like situation had arisen due to breaking of some barriers on the Sangam road. Some devotees have been injured, who are undergoing treatment. The situation is not serious, the situation is under control.”

Record number of devotees in Maha Kumbh

On the day of Mauni Amavasya in Maha Kumbh, it was expected that 8 to 10 crore devotees would take bath at 44 ghats including Sangam. A day before this, on Tuesday, 5.5 crore devotees took a holy dip in Sangam.

Although the administration and security agencies are busy controlling the situation, the accident has raised serious questions on the arrangements of the Maha Kumbh.
