Uttrakhand Tragedy: Massive cloud burst and landslide in Dharali

Uttrakhand Cloud Burst: The sudden floods that came after a cloudburst in Dharali village of Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand on Tuesday showed a scene that would send chills down anyone’s spine. What happened in a few seconds was not just a natural disaster, it was a scene that would make even a stone heart tremble. People’s frightened eyes, screams buried in the rubble, and that moment when no one understood where to run, how to escape.

Meanwhile, a video of the incident has surfaced in which it can be seen how people are seen running from hotels and guest houses in a panic to save their lives, while in a few moments a wall of fast flowing water and debris breaks down on them. The person recording the video screams, warns the people running to save their lives, but by then many people are trapped in the fast flowing current. It was as if a river full of mud and debris had come down to every street to take people away.

“Run… run!”

The person recording the video shouts “Run, run!” to warn people, but by then many people are caught in the fast flow of water. The sudden surge in Kheer Gadh Gadhera swept away the hotels, restaurants and houses located on the roadside in a few minutes. In the video, it can be clearly heard that people are screaming, feeling suffocated and trying to call their relatives.

According to eyewitnesses, 20 to 25 hotels and homestays have been swept away in this flood. The water came down so fast that people did not even get time to run away. Many vehicles, shops and structures under construction also got submerged in the water.

So far four dead, many missing

Uttarkashi District Magistrate Prashant Arya said that so far four people have been confirmed dead and 10 to 12 people may be buried under the debris. He said that due to network failure, there is difficulty in getting clear information. Army team from Harshil, two ITBP teams, and SDRF and NDRF personnel are engaged in relief and rescue operations on the spot. Three more NDRF teams have been dispatched from Manera, Barkot and Dehradun.

PM Modi has expressed grief over the Uttarkashi accident. He has expressed condolences to the victims. The district administration has taken this situation seriously and has issued emergency helpline numbers to carry out relief and rescue operations quickly.
