Mumbai’s famous Siddhivinayak temple has decided to implement a new dress code for devotees, under which entry will be prohibited by wearing short skirts and short clothes. This decision has been taken by the Shri Siddhivinayak Ganpati Temple Trust (SGTT), which will be effective from next week.
Devotees will have to follow decent clothing
According to the temple trust, devotees have been encouraged to wear appropriate and traditional clothing. The trust has recommended Indian attire and clarified that devotees wearing short skirts, revealing clothes, or inappropriate clothing will not be allowed entry.
Decision taken after complaints from devotees
According to Pawan Tripathi, treasurer of the trust, many devotees had lodged complaints that the clothing of some devotees makes others feel uncomfortable. This decision has been taken keeping this feedback in mind. He also told that dress codes are already in place in many temples across the country, and now Siddhivinayak temple has also decided to adopt it.
Plastic bags also banned in temple premises
Apart from this, the temple trust has banned the use of plastic bags in the distribution of prasad. Now it has been suggested to use paper bags, which is currently being implemented on a trial basis.
Other temples have also taken such decisions
Recently, the Banke Bihari temple administration of Vrindavan also appealed to the devotees not to wear mini skirts, night suits, torn jeans, leather clothes etc. The temple administration called it an initiative to maintain the dignity of a religious place.
