Jalandhar: A bandh has been called in many districts of Punjab today, 28 January 2025, over the desecration of the statue of Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. Due to this, the effect has been seen in districts like Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Phagwara, Nawanshahr, Hoshiarpur and Moga.
Schools Closed for Student Safety in Punjab
Due to the announcement of the bandh, holiday has been declared in many private schools of these districts. The school administration has taken this decision keeping in mind the safety of students and staff. Many major schools including Innocent Hearts School, Guru Amardas School will remain closed in Jalandhar.
Desecration of Baba Saheb’s Statue in Amritsar
On the occasion of Republic Day, a serious case of tampering with the statue of Baba Saheb came to light in Heritage Street, Amritsar. A youth tried to break the statue with a hammer, who was arrested by the police on the spot. The accused has been identified as Akash Singh, a resident of Dharamkot.
Chief Minister Orders Strict Action on Statue Incident
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has taken this incident seriously and has ordered strict action. He says that such incidents can spoil the peace and harmony in the society, which the government will not tolerate at all.
