Presidents Day celebrated on the third Monday of February, offers many Americans a day off to honor the nation’s first president, George Washington, whose birthday falls on February 22. The holiday has also come to recognize President Abraham Lincoln, who was born on February 12. Presidents Day is often marked by various sales and discounts at numerous retailers.
This year, Presidents Day will be observed on Monday, February 17, 2025. According to CNN, Here’s what you can expect regarding services and operations on the holiday:
Financial Services: NY Stock Exchange, Banking holiday
The Nasdaq and the New York Stock Exchange will be closed for trading. Most bank branches, including those of big financial institutions, will also be shut due to the federal banking holiday. However, TD Bank branches will remain open. Online banking and ATM services will still be available.
Retail Stores will be open
Most large retailers and grocery stores like Walmart, Target, Kroger, and Costco will be open. But, it’s always a good idea to confirm local stores and restaurant hours before heading out.
Government offices, library closed
Nonessential government offices, including DMVs, city halls, courthouses, and many libraries, will be closed across the country, as Presidents’ Day is a federal holiday.
Postal Services
There will be no mail delivery by USPS on Presidents’ Day. However, UPS will operate as usual, and FedEx will be open, though with modified services.
