PM Narendra Modi waves the Tiranga as he inaugurates Chenab bridge – the world’s HIGHEST railway arch bridge.
On June 6, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Chenab Rail Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district, marking a significant milestone in India’s infrastructure development. Standing at 359 meters above the Chenab River, this bridge is now the world’s highest railway arch bridge, surpassing the Eiffel Tower in height. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Union Minister Jitendra Singh .
The Chenab Bridge is a critical component of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL), a 272-kilometer-long project aimed at enhancing connectivity in the region. The bridge spans 1.3 kilometers with a steel arch design and is engineered to withstand extreme weather conditions, including temperatures ranging from -10 to 40°C and wind speeds up to 260 km/h. It has an estimated lifespan of 120 years and was constructed at a cost of ₹1,486 crore .

In addition to the Chenab Bridge, PM Modi also inaugurated the Anji Khad Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge. These projects are expected to significantly reduce travel time between Katra and Srinagar to under three hours via the Vande Bharat Express trains, thereby boosting tourism and economic development in the region .
