Mahakumbh Stampede: Special trains stopped, many trains going to Prayagraj diverted

Mahakumbh Stampede: Before the Mauni Amavasya bath in Mahakumbh, a sudden stampede broke out on the Sangam coast at around 2 am on Tuesday night, causing a stir. More than 17 devotees are feared dead in the accident, while more than 50 people have been injured. However, the official number of injured and dead has not been released by the administration yet.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself is monitoring the incident and has spoken to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath three times on the phone in the last two hours. To control the situation, the administration has diverted many trains going to Prayagraj, as well as a decision has been taken to cancel all special trains till further orders.

An atmosphere of chaos has arisen after the stampede on the Sangam coast. Difficulties increased due to the huge crowd gathered for the holy bath of Mauni Amavasya. Different claims are being made about the number of injured, but the administration has not confirmed any figures.

On the request of the administration, all 13 akhadas have decided to perform the Amrit bath of Mauni Amavasya after 11 am and the entry of common devotees has also been temporarily banned. The administration and relief-rescue team present on the spot immediately took charge and tried to bring the situation under control.

Administration’s clarification – situation is not serious (Mahakumbh Stampede)

Giving clarification regarding the Mahakumbh stampede, Prayagraj’s Special Executive Officer Akanksha Rana said, “A stampede-like situation occurred due to the breaking of some barriers on the Sangam road. However, the situation is not serious. Some people have been injured and are undergoing treatment. The administration is fully alert.” Due to the presence of a large number of devotees, the administration has taken many important decisions giving priority to security. To avoid any untoward situation during Maha Kumbh, trains going to Prayagraj have been stopped and heavy police force has been deployed.
