After the completion of Konkan Expressway, this journey can be completed in just 6 hours, which till now used to take up to 12 hours. This expressway is being built on the lines of America’s Pacific Highway and during the journey, you will get to see lush green mountains on one side and beautiful views of the sea on the other.
14 years of wait is over!
Construction work of Konkan Expressway started in 2011, but it kept getting delayed due to many technical and administrative hurdles. Now this project has reached its final stage and will soon be opened to the general public. This expressway will be a 6-lane access controlled highway, which will reduce the travel time by half. Under this project, a 376 km long expressway and a 120 km stretch road are being built, which will make the total distance 498 km.
Grand structure: 41 tunnels and 21 major bridges
Keeping in mind the difficult terrain of the Konkan region, 41 tunnels and 21 major bridges are being built on the expressway. The longest bridge is being built on Dharamtar Creek (Karja), which will be 10.2 km long. Apart from this, 7 major bridges will have a total length of 27 km, which will make the journey more smooth. Apart from this, this route will also have 41 small bridges in different districts, which will make the journey more safe and convenient.
Konkan Expressway: Cost of Rs 68,000 crore and route details
Mega project is estimated to cost Rs 68,000 crore. This also includes the acquisition of 3,792 hectares of land, out of which 146 hectares of land comes under the forest department.
Konkan Expressway is being built from Panvel (Navi Mumbai) to Sindhudurg (Goa border). Its route will pass through Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts. The expressway will cover 17 talukas and 232 villages, which will also lead to the development of these areas. Apart from this, 14 interchanges will be built on the entire expressway, which will also benefit local traffic.
