Donald Trump has signed an executive order making it mandatory to provide citizenship documents for voter registration in the US federal elections.
Washington, US: The US President is ready for a big change. He signed an executive order on Tuesday, March 25, demanding sweeping changes in the elections to be held in the US. He has made it mandatory to provide citizenship documents for voting registration in the federal elections there. That is, just like in India we provide official ID proofs like Aadhaar card or voter card, similarly in the US, if someone is a citizen of that country, he will have to show his document, only then he can register himself to vote.
Citing India and some other countries, the order said that the US, despite being a “leading country with self-governance”, has failed to implement the “basic and necessary election security” that modern, developed and developing countries take.
“For example, India and Brazil are linking voter identification to biometric databases, while the US relies heavily on self-attestation for citizenship,” it said. “Germany and Canada require paper ballots when arranging votes, while the US has multiple methods that often lack basic chain-of-custody,” it said.

The order also said countries such as Denmark and Sweden “sensibly” limit mail-in voting for those unable to vote in person and do not count late votes regardless of the postmark date. But many US elections now feature large-scale voting by mail. Many officials accept ballots without a postmark or received after the election date.
President Trump returned to power in January after defeating Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. He has said that “free, fair and honest elections free from fraud, errors or doubt are fundamental to maintaining our constitutional republic”.
He said, “The right of American citizens to have their votes properly counted and tabulated without illegal dilution is vital to determining the true winner of the election.”
What changes is Trump making in the US elections:
The order talks about amending the voter registration form. Now voters will have to provide proof of citizenship in document form, such as US passport or birth certificate. It also says that states should hand over their voter lists and records of voter list maintenance to the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) for review.

The order states that it is necessary to “cast and receive” votes by the day of the election. It said federal funding should be conditional on state compliance with that deadline. The order directed the Election Assistance Commission to amend its guidelines for voting systems aimed at “protecting election integrity.” This would include guidance that voting systems should not rely on ballots that use barcodes or QR codes in the vote-counting process. Donald Trump’s order also banned foreign citizens from contributing or donating to US elections.
