Delhi Markets closed 5 February: In view of the Delhi Assembly elections, voting will be held for all 70 assembly constituencies of Delhi on February 5. Keeping this in mind, the Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) has announced that all markets in Delhi will be closed on the day of voting, i.e. on February 5.

More than 700 Markets will be closed in Delhi on 5th February

CTI informed that more than 700 markets in the capital Delhi will remain closed on the day of voting, and traders have been advised to make their schedule according to the election day.

What did the CTI President say?

Commenting on this decision, CTI President Brijesh Goyal said that all traders should follow the orders of the Election Commission and the Labor Department. He also informed that in some cases, such as in the retail sector, shopkeepers can open their shops in the evening after voting. If a shop or factory is opened, employees should be given paid leave.

Election for 70 seats of Delhi Assembly

The election to be held on February 5 will see polling for all 70 seats of the Delhi Assembly, and the counting of votes will take place on February 8. CTI general secretary Gurmeet Arora said all businesses, including shops, hotels, restaurants, resorts and industrial units, have been directed to grant leave to their employees without any pay cuts.

Right to leave for voting

The Labour Department has issued an order under Section 135B of the ‘Representation of the People Act’, 1951, ensuring that all employees will get the right to leave on the day of polling. Also, employees engaged in emergency services have been advised to return to their workplace after voting.
