CSK vs RCB: In the history of IPL, 33 matches have been played between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore. RCB has defeated Chennai Super Kings only once in its home. Since then RCB has lost eight consecutive IPL matches in Chennai.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are to clash on Friday (March 28) in match number-8 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Chennai defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by four wickets in its first match. On the other hand, RCB defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by seven wickets in the opening match. This match between the two teams will be played at MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk) in Chennai from 7.30 pm Indian time.
Will this drought of RCB end?
It is not an easy task to defeat CSK on its home ground. If seen, RCB has defeated Chennai Super Kings only once in its home and that too in the first season of the tournament in 2008. Since then, RCB has lost eight consecutive matches. Only star batsman Virat Kohli was a part of that match when RCB won against CSK at their home. Now Kohli would like to break the fort of Super Kings for the second time. However, the road for RCB will not be easy. As always, the Chennai team will be ready to give a tough fight to the opposing teams in their home matches on a spinner-friendly pitch.
Chennai Super Kings has experienced Ravindra Jadeja, who has been a part of the team for a long time. While star spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has also joined the team again. The Chennai team has also included Afghanistan’s left-arm wrist spinner Noor Ahmed in the team, who performed well against Mumbai Indians. Chennai’s traditional pitch will be seen in this match as well and the RCB batsmen led by Kohli will have to improve their game to beat the experienced bowling attack.

Facing spin has not always been the strong side of Virat Kohli’s batting, but in the last two years he has shown a lot of improvement in this department. The main reason for this change is their desire to play more sweeps and slog sweeps against spinners and Kohli will have to show all his expertise in the match to be held on Friday evening. Virat Kohli will also need support from batsmen like Phil Salt, captain Rajat Patidar, Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma.
Chepauk Stadium Pitch report: RCB vs CSK
Given the slow pitch of Chepauk, RCB may possibly include Jacob Bethell in the playing-11 in place of Tim David, who also gives the option of left-arm spin bowling. The team will also be eyeing the fitness of fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who could not play against KKR due to injury and if this experienced fast bowler is fit, he will be included in the playing-11 in place of Rasik Salam.
Apart from Kohli, eyes will also be on Dhoni
Chennai Super Kings will hope that their middle order gets back into form as Shivam Dubey, Deepak Hooda and Sam Curran failed to make an impact against Mumbai Indians in the last match. He will have to get more support from Rachin Ravindra and captain Rituraj Gaikwad and will also expect another effective innings from Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The CSK team will also keep an eye on the fitness of Sri Lankan fast bowler Mathisha Pathirana, who could not play in the match against Mumbai. If Pathirana regains fitness, he may get a chance in place of Nathan Ellis.
If seen, in the history of the Indian Premier League (ipl), 33 matches have been played between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore so far. During this, Chennai Super Kings won 21 matches, while Royal Challengers Bangalore won 11 matches. One match also remained inconclusive.
