College Closed: A big change is going to happen in the colleges of Himachal Pradesh soon. The state government has decided that colleges with less than 100 students will be closed. Students studying in these colleges will be transferred to nearby colleges or they will be able to take admission in any other college as per their convenience. Teachers and staff posted in these colleges will also be shifted to other colleges.
This decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Education Minister Rohit Thakur on Wednesday. Officials say that courses like BA, BSc, BCom cannot be run if the number of students in colleges is less than 500. In the first phase, 100 student number has been fixed. The buildings, furniture and other items of such colleges will be shifted to nearby colleges.
Also, the Education Minister has directed the officials to prepare a record of the last five years, which will give information about the student number, expenditure and admissions of the colleges. A list of those colleges will also be made in this report, in which the student number is less than 100.
Himachal Pradesh has 136 government and 8 Sanskrit colleges, many of which have a student strength of 50 or even less. Now the government is considering rationalising these colleges. With this change, students will have to take admission elsewhere, and the staff will also be posted in the new colleges.
The education minister said that the matter will also be discussed in the cabinet, and the decision will be implemented soon.
