Bad news for Guthka eaters! Spitting in public places will attract heavy fines

Heavy Fine on Guthka Eathers: West Bengal government is preparing to take strict action against those who spit tobacco, pan masala or paan in public places. A bill will be introduced in this regard in the upcoming budget assembly session, which will have a provision for heavy fines. This was agreed upon in the cabinet meeting held at the state secretariat Nabanna on Tuesday (February 4).

CM expressed displeasure on Guthka eaters

According to a member of the state cabinet, the Chief Minister has expressed deep concern over the increasing habit of chewing tobacco and spitting in public places. He said that this not only spreads dirt but also affects the beautification efforts of the state government.

How much will be the fine?

The state government is planning to impose a heavy fine by considering spitting in public places as a crime. Although the amount has not been officially decided yet, but according to sources, this fine can be up to Rs 1,000.

It is worth noting that the West Bengal Prevention of Spitting in Public Places Act, 2003 is already in force, under which a maximum fine of Rs 200 is imposed. This amount may increase significantly in the new law.

Proposal will be made in the budget session

The state’s budget session will begin on February 10. West Bengal Finance Minister (Independent Charge) Chandrima Bhattacharya will present the budget on February 12, in which this law may be included.
