Delhi Closed 5 February: In view of the Delhi elections, a public holiday has been declared on February 5 in all government offices, local and autonomous bodies, public sector undertakings under the Delhi government.
There will be a public holiday on February 5, the day of voting in Delhi. Its notification has been issued on Monday after getting approval from the Lieutenant Governor. According to the notification, there will be a public holiday in all government, non-government, private offices and other institutions in Delhi. That is, employees working in all these offices will be able to vote.
They will not have to take leave from the employer for this. At the same time, the trade organizations of Delhi have also decided to keep the establishments closed on Wednesday, so that shopkeepers and employees working in shops can exercise their franchise.
An official said on Monday that more than 150 companies of paramilitary forces and more than 30 thousand policemen will be deployed in Delhi in view of the assembly elections. Special CP (Crime) and Election Cell in-charge Devesh Chandra Srivastava said that all the Delhi Police personnel are committed to conduct free, fair and peaceful elections.
He said that about 3,000 polling stations have been identified as sensitive. Drones will be used at some of these places. Deployment of additional police force will be ensured at sensitive booths. Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) will be deployed to maintain peace, law and order.
Meanwhile, according to data released by the Delhi Police, more than 1,000 cases of alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) have been registered before the elections to be held on February 5. Between January 7 and February 2, 33,434 people have been arrested under various legal provisions including the Excise Act.
