8th Pay Commission: 100% Salary hike possible, Big Relief for Employees & Pensioners

There is good news for central government employees and pensioners. After the announcement of the 8th Pay Commission, discussions have intensified regarding the possible increase in salary and pension. It is being estimated that there may be a huge increase in salary this time. According to sources, the government is planning to implement the new fitment factor, which can give many times salary hike to the employees.

Salary will be decided by fitment factor

The fitment factor plays an important role in the salary determination of government employees. Salary is revised on this basis. M. Raghavaiya, Staff Leader of National Council-Joint Consultative Machinery (NC-JCM), recently told that they are demanding a fitment factor of at least 2 in the 8th Pay Commission. This will give adequate salary hike to the employees and their standard of living will be better.

Up to 100% increase in salary possible

According to former Finance Secretary Subhash Chandra Garg, the government may approve the fitment factor between 1.92 to 2.08 this time. This means that the salary of the employees can increase from the current Rs 18,000 to Rs 36,000.

1.92 On application of fitment factor: Salary will increase from Rs 18,000 to Rs 34,560 (92% increase).

2.0 On application of fitment factor: Salary can reach Rs 36,000 (100% increase).

2.08 On application of fitment factor: Salary can go up to Rs 37,440 (108% increase).

Similarly, an increase in pension is also possible from Rs 9,000 to Rs 18,000.

Government approves formation of 8th Pay Commission

On February 4, Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary confirmed in the Rajya Sabha that the government has approved the formation of the 8th Pay Commission. However, the official timeline for its implementation has not been clarified yet.

Shiv Gopal Mishra, Secretary Staff Side NC-JCM, said that the commission may be constituted by February 15, 2025. After this, the report of the commission will be finalized by November 30, 2025, and the government will review it in December 2025. If everything goes as planned, the new pay commission can be implemented from January 2026.

Government employees union and pensioner organizations had been demanding the 8th Pay Commission for a long time. Now, with its implementation, lakhs of employees will get great financial relief. The increase in the fitment factor will increase the salary of the employees drastically, which will strengthen their financial position.
